CNG, NGV and LNG are three abbreviations used to refer to natural gas.
LNG is the abbreviation for “liquefied natural gas”, whereas CNG means “compressed natural gas”. The difference therefore lies in their state: one is liquid, the other is compressed. The advantage of storing natural gas in liquid form is that its volume is much smaller compared with CNG.
Natural Gas for Vehicles (NGV), meanwhile, is natural gas used as a fuel. At NGV stations, the natural gas can be present in liquid form (LNG) or compressed (CNG). NGV helps reduce the carbon footprint of a car fleet. We sometimes also talk about bioNGV: this is the renewable version of NGV, produced from biomethane.
