Founded in 2017, The Coral Planters works to safeguard the ocean and its marine ecosystems by restoring coral reefs. This initiative is supported by the Teréga Accélérateur d’Énergies endowment fund, which champions local action to protect and enhance biodiversity.
Since 2017, The Coral Planters has been restoring coral in seas and oceans to help protect marine biodiversity, whose balance is increasingly under threat.
Based in Hossegor, The Coral Planters is dedicated to safeguarding marine ecosystems through one core mission: the restoration of coral reefs. As critical pillars of biodiversity, corals support 25% of all marine life and act as natural barriers protecting our coastlines.
To counter their decline, the association deploys innovative, sustainable transplantation techniques across strategic sites including the Maldives, Rodrigues Island and Mozambique. Beyond field operations, The Coral Planters invests in educating younger generations through its Edu’Coral programme and in scientific research to improve reef survival rates. Its impact, both locally in southwest France and internationally on its restoration sites, helps unite citizens and businesses around a shared goal: regenerating marine life to preserve the balance of our planet.
Through this programme, the association engages with young people, from nursery and primary pupils to secondary and university students, to raise awareness of the need to protect marine ecosystems and safeguard coral reefs.
Developed by marine researchers and specialists, the educational programme aims to give everyone a solid grounding in aquatic environments. Several workshops and a dedicated educational booklet have also been created to introduce younger audiences, from nursery to lower secondary level, to these issues.
