BarMar is a 400 km offshore hydrogen pipeline project that will connect Barcelona (Spain) to the industrial hub of Fos-sur-Mer, near Marseille (France).
Its aim is to create a major corridor for exporting hydrogen produced in Portugal and Spain from renewable energy sources (essentially solar and wind) at competitive costs, to the French hydrogen backbone—connected in turn to hydrogen infrastructure being developed in Germany and the rest of northwest Europe.
This project is subject to a preliminary public consultation organised under the supervision of the National Commission for Public Debate (CNDP). The Commission has appointed two neutral and independent guarantors tasked with ensuring the integrity and smooth running of the consultation.
From 6 May to 12 July 2026, the consultation will give the public the opportunity to learn about the project, ask questions of the project promoters and express their views on all aspects of BarMar: objectives, challenges, route and implementation methods.
The consultation will comprise 25 public events held in various formats across the entire region, from the Spanish border to the Gulf of Fos. Public registers are available in all coastal municipalities and on the dedicated consultation platform.
Three public meetings, which will be streamed live online, are scheduled:
On 6 May, to kick off the process, in Gruissan;
On 17 June, in Canet-en-Roussillon;
On 6 July, in Fos-sur-Mer.
